With the focus of reviewing the status and relevance of the current programmes and introducing others beyond the current, MKI recognised the need to better plan, coordinate and focus its efforts on addressing its mandate of utilising specialist education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for skills and economic development. The review, planning and coordination helped to realise the step change necessary to achieve the vision and mandate of the MKI as it responded to the intended goals, objectives and priorities in order to promote opportunities that would enhance access to continuous learning, jobs and skills through the discourse of STEM. The review process was therefore guided by the principles of innovation, access, efficiency and sustainability in an attempt to contribute towards opportunities for jobs, skills development and the underpinning philosophy of UBUNTU that governs and epitomises the Institute.
