Dr Machi is currently a Board Member of Moses Kotane Institute, based in KwaZulu-Natal Province, Board member of the Science Centre in Stanger, Kwa-Zulu-Natal, and a former Board of the largest Southern Africa Science Centre (SciBono, Johannesburg).

Dr Machi had been the Executive Director of Richards Bay Campus of the University of Zululand, and participates in most statutory committees of the University. He had also been the Executive Director for Academic Affairs at the National Institute for Higher Education in Mpumalanga, Group Head of iThemba Laboratories in Gauteng, and Senior Lecturer and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of South Africa.

Dr Machi has published a number of articles in accredited journals and participated in international conferences to share his expertise with his fellow scientists. He has previously received research funding awards and grants, and merit awards in physics and applied mathematics, and conducted most of his research utilizing world-class international research facilities in Switzerland, Canada, Belgium and Italy.

Dr Machi completed a BSc (Hons), MSc (UKZN) and Phd in experimental solid-state physics (Wits). He matriculated at Groutville High School.
